Tri-Banded Brassy Bleach & Tone to Flawless Platinum

Color corrections come in many shades and levels of complexity. For starters, the hair typically has been compromised, whether by being pushed too far, cared for incorrectly, or the service just wasn’t up to par. Whatever the origin may be, we are here for any and every kind of OLAPLEX transformation, which is exactly what Los Angeles colorist, Sara Lim @slim_color gave us with this compromised, tri-banded bleach and tone correction.

First things first, the consultation. Slim determined the client has about a 3 1/2” grow out. Before discussing any results, Slim told the client she couldn’t move forward with the correction unless the client planned to touch up her re-growth no more than 7 weeks apart. Any longer, gives a corrective line of demarcation as seen on the client.

We hope this transformation inspires you whether you’re in or behind the chair!

Here’s the process:

First things first, Leslie came in for a consultation knowing her situation was a color correction. Before any color work, she came in for an OLAPLEX Stand Alone Treatment. Once the treatment was applied, Slim braided her clients hair and sent her home with the Stand Alone on so she could keep it on longer and wash out once the product dried out. This period to rebuild essential bonds before her highlight appointment was crucial to the success of what was to come.

Highlight formula:

Regrowth: Redken Flashlift 30 vol + OLAPLEX No.1

Mid shaft through ends: Redken Flashlift 10 vol + OLAPLEX No.1

After rinsing Slim applied OLAPLEX No.2 as the rest of her highlights continued to process.

Shampoo using Fanola No Yellow for 5 minutes, then condition with OLAPLEX No.5.

Later, Slim towel dried and applied the diluted OLAPLEX No.1 with water and left on while she applied the root shadow.

Root: Redken Shades EQ 5NA

Slim applied OLAPLEX No.2 on the client’s ends so she could comb through her hair without the root toner coloring her ends. Pro tip!

Process for 15 minutes, then comb down the last 5 minutes.

All over gloss Redken 9nb + clear for 7 minutes.

Shampooand condition with OLAPLEX No.4 and No.5.

Multi Tasking At Home with OLAPLEX

At a time where most of the world is being asked to pause, there’s no better time than the present to start practicing those YouTube style tutorials you’ve been eyeing! You might want to master fishtail braids, spend more time communicating with loved ones, or be working from home. Whatever the case may be, take this time to be productive and check off that to-do list! The best part is, while you’re doing all these things, you can also use OLAPLEX to rebuild the bonds in your hair simultaneously!

Any OLAPLEX product could work to rebuild the bonds in the hair, from a Stand Alone Treatment for our beloved hairdressers staying at home, No.3 for clients, and even No.5 for a bond rebuilding conditioning treatment.

Here are some of the many ways you can keep your hair healthy and fabulous with the tasks you do at home:

Exercise.

A fan favorite from the likes of the Kardashians is to use OLAPLEX No.3 while working out. Apply No.3 to damp hair, comb through, and put into a bun. As exercise does induce sweating, we recommend putting a headband or bandana at the hairline to avoid any product getting into your eyes. Although OLAPLEX is non-toxic and completely safe, no one wants product in their eyes!

Working from home.

Our previous article discusses tips from Team OLAPLEX for working at home and one of them included treating your hair while you work! A couple of times a week swap a Stand Alone or No.3 for a moisture treatment with No.5. Your hair will thank you!

Organizing the house.

Okay, okay. This may not sound so fun for some, but what if you make it a ‘treat yourself’ cleaning moment? Pop a treatment on while you get your house in order, clean up, or do the laundry!

Meditation and wellness.

As you find ways to calm and center your mind, with meditation and breathing techniques, put yourself front and center by treating your hair simultaneously. It feels amazing to work on your inner self while working on your outer self. By the end, you’ll feel healthy inside and out!

Phone or video-call a friend.

Why not do an OLAPLEX treatment together! If you can’t make it to the salon, bring the salon home. You can both do a No.3 treatment for rebuilding, or a No.5 treatment for conditioning and bond rebuilding!

Online courses.

Many of you are schooling from home with online classes. Take time while working hard to let OLAPLEX do some of the work upstairs for you! Execute projects and problem solve while rebuilding bonds in your hair.

Spa Day.

Maybe you just want to relax for the day. You deserve it! Whether it’s Netflix and chill, reading, pampering, or playing board games with the family; we want to be there with you. You can go for a double whammy and rebuild the bonds in the hair with No.3, then rinse and put on a No.5 conditioning treatment! There are so many ways you can use the OLAPLEX system to get the most out of your day, more on that featured in our next post.

Whatever you’re doing while you treat your hair, we can’t wait to see your OLAPLEX journey. Use this time to watch how-to videos and practice air dry styles to keep your hair healthy! For daily bond rebuilding maintenance and moisture, reach for OLAPLEX No.6 and No.7. Both No.6 and No.7 are our secret weapon to combat bed head, which many of us could use a little help with right now. Show us your OLAPLEX at-home journey by using the hashtag #olaplexjourney on social media!

Why Is My Hairline Uneven? How To Combat A Receding Hairline

Why is my hairline uneven?

why is my hairline uneven?

Do you have an uneven hairline? There are a number of reasons why your hairline may start to recede. However, it is far from uncommon in men – and most hairlines naturally start to recede slightly from your teenage years onwards. But it can still create some worry about hair loss, even though in reality it is simply just part of growing older. To try and ease some concerns we’ll explain why your hairline may be uneven and possible solutions.

What causes an uneven hairline?

The outside edges of your hairline is made up of a line of hair follicles. The reason why you may have an uneven hairline is because one side has more than the other. This can be because of:

  • Genetics: Hair loss can contribute to an uneven hairline. If other members of your family have similar, it could simply be down to genetics.
  • Male pattern baldness: The loss of hair often begins to show itself by creating an M-shaped pattern due to thinning hair around the crown of the head. In many cases this then leads to a horseshoe shape of hair forming that circles around the rear of the head and above the ears.
  • Traction alopecia: Tension created by continual pulling of hair through things such as buns, braids and ponytails can also create an uneven hairline.
  • Hair transplant: Hair transplants are notorious for failing after a certain period of time and this can also lead to the forming of an uneven hairline.

Is an uneven hairline a sign of receding hairline?

As mentioned above, an uneven hairline may be an early sign of hair loss. But it could also be the natural movement of a maturing hairline. As men grow older, their hairline naturally starts to change. It either starts to push back slightly or begins to look uneven. The hairline is likely to sit higher up and be less defined than it was during your teenage years.

Does a bad hairline mean balding?

Taking the above into account, if you notice your hairline is more mature, you shouldn’t immediately be concerned that you are losing your hair. Male pattern baldness tends to show itself with thinning hair around the crown. Or sometimes with a prominent M-shape where follicle shafts start to reduce in size.

A maturing hairline will move about 1cm above a teenage hairline. It will shift even further if you are experiencing male pattern baldness, which looks more pronounced around the temple area.

What can be done for a bad hairline?

If you are suffering from hair loss that has created a bad, patchy or uneven hairline there is something you can do to help

Skalp’s non-surgical micropigmentation treatment offers the perfect solution. It allows you to reshape your hairline from scratch if needed.

We apply natural pigments to the surface of the scalp to recreate the appearance of hair. Whether you just need the hairline, or other areas of the scalp treated, our team of expert practitioners are available to help.

You can arrange to visit one of our clinics to experience a free consultation. There you can also receive a free virtual hairline mock-up to see how the treatment could look once completed.

OLAPLEX’s Tips for Working From Home

Since inception, OLAPLEX has been a team of amazing individuals who help run the company working from home. The bond our team has built within the company and our customers worldwide by working remotely has been one of the attributes we feel makes our company special. During these trying, unprecedented times, all of us are experiencing change. For many it means working from home. For those new to working remotely, this may present its own challenges. Here at OLAPLEX love it, but know that in the beginning some may feel out of balance transitioning to working remotely. It’s been over five years of us working this way, and in light of the worlds’ headlines, we thought we thought rallying together with some helpful tips for at home productivity could only help some of you during this transition. We hope they help you stay balanced, motivated, and inspired! Here we go!

Get your house in order.

As a collective, we’ve agreed that one of the biggest distractions at home is disorder, whether it be an unmade bed, dishes in the sink, or a mess on the table. A great way to promote a clear mind, is to have a clear space! Tidy up before your work day, whether the evening before or early morning before you start the work day!

Clear your mind prior to starting the work day.

Many people on our team have a morning ritual. This gives them time to start the morning each with in their own special way to start their work day feeling balanced and centered!

Some morning rituals include: coffee (well, most rituals!), no social media for the first 15 minutes of the day, meditation, exercise.

Get ready for work as if you’re leaving the house.

This tip is essential! All of us here have at one point or another started the work day in pajamas and let us tell you, there’s a big difference between staying in PJs and getting dressed. Getting ready as if we’re leaving the house and going into the office, makes for an overall better mindset. It will help you feel motivated, and ready to start the day!

Set up a workspace.

It’s important to set up a place or two you can call your “desk”. For some it might be an area of the kitchen table, some it may be a desk, or even a counter top for those who prefer to stand! Many of us even like to designate a few spaces to change scenery during the day. The only exclusion being working from bed. Save bed for relaxation time!

Schedule breaks for yourself.

Don’t work the whole day straight! Schedule in a time for lunch, snacks, connecting with fellow team mates or friends. Call someone for 5 minutes and ask how their day is going. These little acts can give an abundance of balance into your work home life. We’re all big fans of taking 5 minute stretch breaks throughout the day, some of us even take dance breaks!

Treat yourself.

That’s right. We love a good multi-tasking moment with OLAPLEX No.3 or even OLAPLEX No.5 for a conditioning treatment. Work on a project while also working on the integrity of your hair. It’s a win win!

Set boundaries.

Have a clear start and stop time. Communicate this to your team and manager. Once you have, share with them how to contact you in an “off hour” emergency.

Stay healthy and hydrated.

It’s never too soon for a hydration check. If you’re the type who zones deep into a project, set alarms to remind yourself to check in on your wellness. Whether it’s water, a healthy meal, a supplement, or exercise.  Just because you’re home, doesn’t mean you’re home working all day, so use the “set boundaries” tip to schedule in time for wellness! It’s the most important tip!

Skincare For Bald Men- Designed To Be Bold

A skincare/ shaving routine hybrid

At Skalp®, bald heads are kinda our thing. We are forever on the hunt for products and discoveries that could improve the lives of our customers in some way. That’s why, when we discovered a previous customer of ours, Lee Stafford, had developed a range of shaving and skincare products targeted specifically for bald men and those with a shaved head, we had to share.

Lee had Scalp Micropigmentation treatment with Skalp® in London way back in 2014 for his receding hairline. After falling in love with the treatment, Lee rocked the shaved head look ever since. Before long, he discovered the shaving market was lacking and struggled with finding the perfect combination of products for his hair care and shaving needs. In 2018, he decided to do something about it, and so On Top Skincare was created.

Like hair care, but for bald people…

Those in the beauty community will tell you that your face ends where your decolletage starts, and so skincare should be applied on your neck also. Well, similar could be said for those of us who are bald on top. Why should your skincare routine end where your hairline is? (Especially if you don’t have one, well a real one at least) Bald men should take extra care for the skin on their scalp.

Lee has spent years researching and testing ingredients for the new shaving range, and it shows. Designed solely for men who are bald, have hair loss or shave their heads, the range offers premium head shaving products that will protect even the most sensitive skin. Which is why it is perfect for those with SMP.

The end result is a perfectly curated yet simple 4 step system – The Ultimate Head Shaving Kit. Each step in the system is designed to nurture your scalp whilst protecting it from the irritation a regular shaving routine can cause.

Razor bumps, skin irritation, burns or cuts? Bye 👋🏻

The Ultimate Head Shaving Kit is formulated specifically to reduce skin irritations. There is nothing worse than having that freshly shaved feel ruined by skin rashes, razor bumps and a bad mood. Especially if you are bald and have no real hair. By using naturally derived ingredients, such as sweet almond oil, aloe vera and tea tree extract, On Top Skincare targets and reduces the negative effects of shaving your head.

The kit contains all 4 products you will need to turn your shaving misery into a shaving miracle. The sleek box kit contains everything you need to know as well as clear instructions on how to use each product.

Skincare for bald men!

The 4 step head-shaving kit includes pre-shave oil, shaving gel, scalp cleanser, and matt moisturizer. Sounds perfect already, right? The pre-shave oil is designed to hydrate and soften the skin before shaving. Next up is a shaving gel packed with nutrients and aloe to calm and protect the skin against razor burn. The 3rd step is a charcoal cleanser to clean and boost the scalp’s skin into top condition and the final step is a super rehydrating but (most importantly) matt moisturizer.

skincare for bald men kit

Your SMP treatment is only as good as your scalp’s condition.

As we all know by now, keeping your scalp in top condition is not only beneficial to you and your confidence but also how your SMP treatment looks. The skin on your scalp is often neglected and we try hard to encourage clients to change this. Skincare for bald men should be a top priority as there is no hair to protect the scalp.

The On Top Skincare kit focuses on using natural ingredients with positive benefits to enhance your scalp condition and thus improving your shave as well as your results. It’s simple application and sleek packaging is an all-round bonus. We have seen nothing but a positive effect on the looks and mood of those who use it!

An Interview with Geraldine, Head Practitioner of Skalp Dublin!

An Interview with Skalp Dublin!

Located in the coastal town of Malahide, just north of the Republic of Ireland’s capital city, is Skalp Dublin® – another of our fantastic SMP clinics. To give you more of an insight into the passionate people that work at Skalp, we sat down with Geraldine, Head Practitioner at Skalp Dublin. Read on to find out how she got into the business of hairline tattooing and what her passions are, aside from treating hair loss!

Skalp Dublin practitioner gerry

What inspired you to become an SMP practitioner?

Before I became a practitioner, I worked in the Medical Cosmetic Industry. I became extremely interested in SMP after a friend had a failed hair transplant. My friend did his research and came across Skalp® and their SMP results proved amazing. The procedure was life-changing for my friend, it restored his lost confidence to where it was before he lost his hair. After seeing this, I decided I wanted to be a part of this growing industry with Skalp.

When did you first find out about SMP?

My friend was in his early 20’s when he started to lose his hair. After a failed hair transplant, he researched and found out about Skalp®. He then asked me for my meticulous view, which I gave, and I could not believe how natural the results were! I had to find out how and when I got involved, I wanted to do nothing more but be a part of it! Hense, Skalp Dublin!

What is the most important part of your job?

The most important part of my job is to deliver the most natural-looking hairline for every individual client. Creating the client’s specific customised requests requires critical listening skills and taking a personal interest in the relationships. A vitally important part of my job is having the confidence to demonstrate my expertise and be willing to share my skills, technique and knowledge to create this life-changing hair loss solution.

What types of hair loss can scalp micropigmentation treat?

SMP can treat any stage of male pattern baldness as well as Androgenetic Alopecia. SMP can also camouflage any type of scaring, including scars left from previous hair transplants.

What makes Skalp® Dublin different from other scalp micropigmentation clinics?

From start to finish our clients are in the best hands. Our treatments are meticulously tailored differently for every client. We feel that’s what makes us so very different than other clinics. What do you do when you are not working?

I mostly relax by getting outdoors and taking walks along lovely nature trails in the parks and coastal areas. Sometimes I bring a sketchbook, be still, and appreciate all nature has to offer by just observing. I enjoy the theatre and art gallery’s and often say there should be more! Radio is my fix as I could not live without all sorts of music from up and coming artist to old-school!

Do you have any other passions?

OMG! Yes! From being still with nature to watching the fasted Road Racers and MOTO GP is what gets my adrenaline pumped. That is my secret passion!

What do you think other people should know about Skalp Dublin?

At Skalp® Dublin we feel an instinctual need to take care of the things we feel connected to, so providing a hair-loss solution is a big part of our lives. We concentrate on exceeding the expectations of our clients and delivering the most realistic results possible. Our SMP experience is extensive and covers all types of hair loss.

Can you tell me about a specific person who had SMP at Skalp Dublin?

I can tell you I have clients tell me that the SMP has changed the way they feel and even how others perceive them. I have had a client tell me they have since gone back to the sporting passions they once loved. The best part and most common is when clients don’t even give hair loss a 2nd thought anymore. We love that!

What would you say to someone considering SMP at Skalp?

I would say, do your research see the results for yourself. Get up close and personal as it is the results that help make that decision. Ciaran our consultant has SMP treatment himself so you can view our amazing results in our private luxury clinic.

Scalp Micropigmentation hair loss tattoo featured on The Doctors!

As more people begin to discover that using all the serums, creams, shampoos and hair transplants in the world cannot reverse or restore hair loss, the services provided by Skalp are becoming more widely known.

This has seen us mentioned more frequently on prime-time TV shows ( yes Bill Maher we’re looking at you ). More recently we also featured on The Doctors daytime talk show.

Introducing Skalp’s hair restoration service

The Dr. Phil’s popular show (Dr. Phil also produces The Doctors) has been on air since 2008. And with every passing year it has continued to grow in popularity.

In an episode released in October 2019, the video opens with a startling statistic. As much as two-thirds of American men will experience some degree of hair loss by the age of 35. By age 50, it is estimated that as many as 80% of men will have significantly thinning hair.

ER physician Dr. Travis Stork then went on to introduce Skalp. He spoke about the amazing scalp micropigmentation ( aka the hair loss tattoo ) services we provide to customers right across America.

Stork explained how the service works: We apply natural pigments to the scalp with an electric tattoo device to replicate the appearance of hair follicles. Once completed, it offers a realistic look of a full shaved hairline right across the scalp.

Stork was very positive, saying he liked how it looked. Co-presenter, obstetrician-gynecologist, Dr. Nita Landry, said she was also impressed and compared it to a hairline version of microblading which women get for their eyebrows.

Fellow co-presenter Dr. Andrew Ordon also liked the look of the technology, saying the results looked very real.

See our full results gallery here.

Dr. Ordon went on to say that it will require a top-up after a few years. This is true, but on average it is usually around 5 years before customers are required to return. Although this can vary from person to person.

Dr. Landry asked both of her co-presenters if they would consider using the treatment if they were losing their hair and both said yes without hesitation.

Watch the full clip of Skalp® hair loss tattoo treatment being shown on ‘The Doctors’ below.

Where is Skalp treatment available?

We are always looking to expand our availability to customers. And thanks to TV shows like The Doctors, we are helping more men deal with their hair loss than ever before. The hair loss tattoo is quickly becoming the number 1 hair loss solution to male pattern baldness and its great to see The Doctors to recognize this also.

Currently, we have clinics open for business in New York and Los Angeles.

This is in addition to London and Manchester in the UK and Edinburgh in Scotland. We also have clinics in Dublin, Ireland, Marbella, Spain, Milan, Italy and Amsterdam in the Netherlands.

How Long Does Postpartum Hair Loss Last?

The birth of a child is one of the most beautiful experiences in all of humanity. Although child birth can be very painful, and I mean very painful, it is a miraculous experience. So when you discover that you’re going to bring a beautiful baby into this world, you would probably never think of experiencing postpartum hair loss. However, women across the world are suffering from this very normal but alarming condition. So I am going to talk about the #1 question that I get from new mothers about their hair: how long does postpartum hair loss last?

But, don’t worry because I am going to share something that can hopefully help your postpartum hair loss like it did for Robyn (below):

How long will postpartum hair loss last?

But please know that I have given birth to two beautiful children and I experienced postpartum hair loss both times. This is how I felt after looking in the mirror at my postpartum hair loss for the second time:

So, if you feel this way, know that you are not alone.

Why does postpartum hair loss happen?

It is important for you to understand why your hair sheds after giving birth. To answer the question of when does postpartum hair loss stop, you must first understand the 4 stages of hair growth. To save time, I will briefly explain. The active or growing phase of a strand of hair is called anagen and it determines the length of your hair. After a period of time, the hair follicle enters a transition phase called catagen before entering its resting phase.  After the transition phase the hair goes into telogen, which is the resting phase  of hair growth. Next, after telegen is the exogen phase, which is when shedding occurs and then the process starts all over again.

Typically, around 85-95% of your hair is in the growth phase at any point in time, but the hormonal changes during pregnancy stimulate an increase in the percentage of hairs in the growth phase. This is why when you’re pregnant your hair appears to be thicker and fuller and you tend to experience less shedding.  However, after giving birth you experience and increase in hormonal changes and more hair follicles than normal enter the resting phase. Since the resting phase is followed by hair shedding and regrowth, new mothers can often experience greater than normal hair loss once the resting phase ends.  This is why post partum hair loss can be such a shock, due to the number of hairs falling out at once.

How long does postpartum hair loss last?

If you’re anything like me, you just want to look in the mirror at your hair loss and say:

Most women begin to notice hair loss around three months after birth. The amount of time between childbirth and the start of postpartum shedding corresponds to the length of the resting phase of hair growth, which is usually between 1 to 6 months. This however, typically occurs on an average of  3 months. Your hair loss can appear more severe if your hair grew a lot during your pregnancy or if you have longer hair. However, the good news is that most women will return to their usual hair growth cycle within 6 months, or at the latest, between 6 and 12 months after birth.

What Can I do about postpartum hair loss?

Here are a few tips about managing this difficult process.

  1. You may find that modifying your hair care routine can help stop further hair loss. Try using a product that promotes hair growth and moisturizes your scalp.
  2. Practice more heatless styling methods to avoid further damage that excessive heat can cause.
  3. Wear tension free hair styles that give your hair line (a common place for excessive postpartum shedding) a break.

If you’re suffering from postpartum hair loss and you are looking for a trusted product that can help you with getting back to full, healthy, and flourishing hair, then try our Voice of Hair PureFix Elixir. The PureFix Hair Elixir is a 6-in-1 hair and scalp treatment that works together to support longer, stronger and moisturized hair. This is what Robyn used, but please know there are no quick fixes. She used the VoiceOfHair PureFix Elixir for over three months. So, the key to using any natural hair care product are patience and consistency!

Key Takeaways

Here are a few key takeaways just in case you’re in a hurry.

  1. The birth of a child is one of the most beautiful experiences in all of humanity.
  2. After child birth women typically experience postpartum hair loss.
  3. To answer the question of how long does postpartum hair loss last, you must first understand the 4 stages of hair growth.
  4. You may experience hair loss for between 1 to 6 months but things should start to improve after that.

6 Benefits of Castor Oil for Your Hair

In recent years beauty bloggers and YouTubers have shined the spotlight on castor oil, as an amazing natural ingredient for hair and skin.  Research has shown that this oil enhances the health of the hair follicles, and promotes hair growth. While it is is well-known for its amazing health benefits and has been in use for centuries across various industries, its benefits for hair often go unnoticed. In this article, we will discuss 6 benefits of castor oil for your hair.

1. Increases circulation to the scalp, which contributes to hair growth

Castor oil is made up of ricinoleic acid, Omega 6 and 9 fatty acids, and Vitamin E which help to stimulate blood flow to the scalp.  In doing so this helps to promote hair growth.

2. Helps Retain Moisture

Castor oil is nutrient-rich humectant, which means that it reduces the loss of moisture in your skin and hair.  In doing so, it prevents your hair from becoming dry and brittle and  is a good hair treatment for the hair. If you have dry hair/scalp, then it is a good resource for maintaining moisturized hair.

3. Strengthens Hair

Do you want your hair to be thicker and stronger?  Using this oil regularly can help with that as well. There are many different oils and the best ones for your hair contain vitamin E and omega fatty acids,  because they can help with brittle hair.  We recommend using this oil combined with other carrier oils and applying to your hair or scalp for a pre-shampoo treatment before washing and conditioning your hair.

4. Reduces inflammation and fights fungus

Castor oil is loved by many because of its anti fungal properties.   Studies have shown that when castor oil is applied topically, it reduces inflammation and fights fungus that can irritate the scalp and cause hair loss. If used daily, it can fight off scalp infections so that the hair can maintain its growth and strength. This will also help control the dandruff which is caused by oily scalp and itchiness.

5. Prevents Breakage

Are you trying to prevent hair breakage? This oil also helps prevent shedding, breakage, and regrowth when applied topically, due to its natural composition of vitamins.  Using castor oil can help provide conditioning to the hair, and appear to fill in the damage on split ends. Some people do not want to use castor oil because of its smell or because of its thick consistency, which can be a bit heavy. If that is the case, don’t worry because you can make/mix different oils to get a better solution.

6. High In Protein

6. Castor oil is high in protein which maintains hair health. Consistent use has been reported by many users to help with hair loss, although there are no specific scientific studies to back the claim.  However, your hair is made of protein and the composition of castor oil is full of good proteins that fortify your hair, helping it to feel stronger over time.

If you are looking for a natural solution that will help your hair grow, then use the castor oil on your hair and scalp as a pre-shampoo treatment before washing it.  Or, you can apply it to your scalp 2x -3x per week to help with dry and itchy scalp.  It is important to focus on nourishing your hair daily, no matter what product you use.

The Key Takeaways
